Texas just landed a commitment from the #1 RB in the state of Texas in Carthage RB Keaontay Ingram. We will have more on this in a little bit. This is a huge commitment for RB coach Stan Drayton.
I was out when this news dropped so I wasn’t able to go too much into the commitment at the time. But Ingram is a guy I’ve felt very good about Texas’ chances with for about a month. Ingram grew up a Texas fan, and after Texas offered they were the clear leader. Then Stan Drayton began evaluating some other out of state RB’s to see what all was out there, and schools like Ohio State, Texas A&M, and LSU were pushing harder for him and it looked like it was going to be a much closer battle than expected. Then Drayton and Texas put their sights on Ingram and the rest was history. I was expecting a commitment to come today from Ingram (even though he wanted to make a commitment before his SR season) because Texas A&M was pushing for him to visit for their BBQ event in June.
In a bad year at RB in the state of Texas, Ingram is the clear crown jewel. At 6’1 185, his game is built around great vision, patience, and explosion through the hole. He can shake off tackles and gain extra gains but he isn’t going to be running over many LB’s. He also has good speed but doesn’t have that elite breakaway speed at the 3rd level. He is a really good overall RB and a huge addition to Texas’ 2018 class.
