– Bralen Taylor: Right now Texas has their eyes set on two TE’s, in Ridge Point (TX) Mustapha Muhammad and Dekaney (TX) Malcolm Epps. The sense is that Muhammad is favoring Michigan after an eye-opening visit to Ann Arbor during their Spring game. Texas is still in that battle for that one.
With regards to Epps, I’ve said recently that I feel Texas is the leader here and. They’ve pulled ahead of Texas A&M.
Another guy to keep an eye on is Cuero (TX) TE Bralen Taylor, the 6’7 220 pound athlete has seen his recruitment take off since February. While he plays a lot of QB for Cuero, his future is at tight end. I spoke with Taylor yesterday and he told me he plans to workout at Texas’ first mini-camp on the 28th. TE coach Corby Meekins has been in contact with him recently, and Taylor is hopeful an offer comes. Taylor said Coach Tom Herman wants to see Taylor in action at the camp, and if he likes what he sees an offer will come.
I’ve been skeptical of Texas offering Taylor, but he told me that the Texas staff has told him that they plan on taking two TEs in the 2018 class. If that is indeed the case then Taylor has a much better chance of receiving an offer than I originally thought.
Taylor plans to commit on June 11th, and has a final 4 of Baylor, Oregon, Ole Miss, and Texas. If the Longhorns offer, I feel very good about their chances to land the 6’7 TE.
I think the other question the staff will be asking themselves is whether taking Taylor hurts their chances at landing either Epps or Muhammad. My guess is if they offer then they will have done the risk reward analysis and decided Taylor is a player well worth the offer regardless of other considerations. – (Andrew)
– Kentucky Offers: Tom Herman and Texas handed out offers to two recruits from the state of Kentucky yesterday in Trinity (KY) WR Rondale Moore and ’19 DE Stephen Herron Jr. I mentioned yesterday in the OP that I think both of these guys are likely long-shots for Texas, but there is a connection. That connection is QB quality control coach Will Stein. He came to Texas from Louisville with Charlie Strong, and was kept by Tom Herman. He actually went to Trinity HS in Kentucky so he knows a lot of people over there.
Funny how on the day I say that Texas’ is likely locked in on Crawford and Waddle if they want to add another slot WR, then they go out and offer Moore. But I think that would be a very tough pull as Ohio State is after him very hard, and there is pressure for him to stay home and play for Louisville. I didn’t speak to Moore, but Herron Jr told me that Texas is a very intriguing offer for him and that he would like to try and visit. He will likely end up as a Top 100 guy nationally in 2019. – (Andrew)
– Marcel Brooks: When I first watched the Sophomore film of FM Marcus (TX) OLB/S Marcel Brooks a few weeks ago, I was just waiting for him to blow up. In the last 24 hours, LSU, Penn State, TCU, and now Oklahoma has offered. He also has received recent offers from Texas A&M, Oklahoma State, and some others. Brooks told me he plans to attend Texas’ camp this weekend, and I’m betting an offer goes out to him. – (Andrew)
