– Marcel Brooks: FM Marcus (TX) ’19 OLB Marcel Brooks tweeted out that he could be “committing soon” before he quickly deleted it. I spoke to someone who told me a decision could come as soon as the end of the week. Though it also wouldn’t be a huge surprise to see him hold off, since his recruitment took off just a few weeks ago.

Brooks camped at Texas and was offered over the weekend. So if he does make a commitment I really like Texas’ chances, but one reason he couldn’t hold off is that the hometown TCU Horned Frogs are working hard to get him back on campus.

Brooks has been offered by Texas, LSU, OU, TAMU, TCU, Penn State, and others over the last few weeks. He’s a legit Top 100 guy nationally in the 2019 class, and now that he’s at a big 6A school I think that will show even more in 2017.

– Keaontay Ingram: ICYMI, Carthage (TX) RB Keaontay Ingram committed to Texas over LSU, Ohio State, Texas A&M, and others. It wasn’t a huge surprise to see him pick Texas, but the timing surprised some folks.

TAMU was pushing hard for him to visit in mid-June and most expected him to make a decision right before his SR season started. Nonetheless, it was a huge win for Texas and likely shuts down their RB recruiting for 2018. Now all the attention shifts to IMG Academy 2019 RB Noah Cain who previously played at Denton Guyer.

– Reese Leitao/TE Situation: Yesterday Texas AD Mike Perrin released a statement that TE signee Reese Leitao will Ben given a chance to play football at Texas after his felony charge on possession of drugs with the intent to see on a HS campus was lowered to a misdemeanor.

I’ve said multiple times recently that I would cut my ties with Leitao, as this is Tom Herman’s first big legal decision with a player/recruit and doesn’t set the best precident. Though it’s not a lie that pretty much every school values winning over just about everything in most cases, no matter what people say. That’s what this is. Though there is no doubt that Leitao will be on a very tight leash in Austin, and I hope for his sake he stays out of trouble.

Another aspect of this is that it hurts the chances of a possible offer for Cuero (TX) TE Bralen Taylor. Now he could 100% end up being offered by Texas before signing day, and him pushing his decision back is a good sign now is a good  as he was originally going to commit in June 11th.

Now I’d believe the Texas staff wants to see what they have in Freshman TE’s Cade Brewer and Leitao before wanting to take 2 2018 TE’s. As Texas has Dekaney (TX) TE Malcolm Epps higher on their board than Taylor, and he is likely Texas bound as of today. This will be a situation to keep an eye on over the coming months.

– Recruiting Surge?: Just something the keep an eye on…
