Open Post | Weekend, June 9th – 11th

– Tanner McKee: Texas has two QB commits, but that hasn’t stopped Tim Beck from recruiting Centennial (CA) QB Tanner McKee very hard. However, McKee is essentially a 2020 recruit. He will be on a two-year mission after he graduates HS and will then enroll at a school. He doesn’t have to sign on NSD because of that, but I’ve talked to him a lot and it sounds like he plans to sign.

When I asked him which schools are after him the hardest right now he said Texas, Washington, and BYU. Both Texas and BYU have two 4-star commits at QB. One thing that I find interesting about Texas’ QB recruiting is that they have Casey Thompson, who is a solid passer but his running ability makes him so good and you could say he’s more of a one read and run QB. Then you have Cam Rising committed, who is a good athlete but uses that ability to create more time as a passer. Then you have Tanner McKee, who is your big 6’6 pro-style QB.

It is interesting to see Texas recruiting all of these QBs with varying skill sets. – (Andrew)

– Ron Tatum: In case you missed it, Texas DE commit Ron Tatum visited Oklahoma over the weekend. He lives less than half an hour from Norman and has some people close to him that would prefer him at OU, and some at Texas. Despite the loss of HC Bob Stoops, we’ve been told that the Sooners are still a very real threat to flip to stud DE from OKC. – (Andrew)

Ronnie Perkins: When Texas gets a commit from St. Louis, you may not expect them to be able to do much recruiting for you as most of the Longhorn targets reside in state. But Ritenour (MO) LB Ayodele Adeoye plans to recruit a big time DL from St. Louis to join him at Texas in Lutheran-North (MO) DE Ronnie Perkins.

I have been told that Perkins and Adeoye have plans to visit Texas on July 17th.

The Sooners seem to be a pretty serious threat here. We are told Perkins will visit Norman sometime in June and it’s sounding more and more like Perkins, who originally planned on announcing sometime around signing day, is considering doing something this summer.

We are also told that the Texas staff absolutely wants Perkins. In our extensive interactions with Adeoye he did say that he and Perkins are very close so this will certainly be one to watch and could end up being the first of potentially many battles between Tom Herman and Lincoln Riley. – (Andrew)
