Texas has landed another huge commitment, this one is from Hou. Lamar (TX) WR Al’Vonte Woodard. He’s the 12th commitment in the 2018 class and the 2nd WR commit to go along with Trinity (TX) WR Rondale Moore. This is a big pickup for WR coach Drew Mehringer, and this one has been done for awhile and it wasn’t too hard to see it as I can’t remember the last visit he took that wasn’t to Texas.
Woodard isn’t the most vocal guy, but there is no doubt that he’s going to help recruit the Houston area targets for Texas. And don’t forget that he’s teammates with top DB targets Anthony Cook and D’Shawn Jamison, I’m confident that he’s been in both of their ears.
The big thing I’m looking to see with Woodard in 2017 is that if he can show he’s more than just a deep threat WR. He can run a legit 4.5 and that’s all he was known for heading into the camp circuit in 2017. He tore those up camps up and looked like he could be a complete WR, now we see if he can show it when the pads come on in 2017. This is a really good get for Texas and what is looking to be a very very strong WR class in 2018.
