– Ronnie Perkins: Lutheran North (MO) DE Ronnie Perkins was set to make his first visit to Texas on July 21st, and the Longhorn staff had a chance to make a big impact on him. Now it doesn’t look like that will happen, as I talked to someone close to Perkins yesterday and it sounds like he will be at Ohio State’s “Friday Night Lights” Camp on the 21st.

Perkins doesn’t hold an offer from the Buckeyes, and by the sounds of it, if they do offer they could swoop in an land him. Right now Oklahoma looks like the leader for Perkins, but an Ohio State offer could change that. Either way it doesn’t look like he will be at Texas on July 21st. – (Andrew)

– Trey Dean: Last night, I tweeted this out.

Recruiting can be a crazy game, and I talked with someone close to Dean and Dean himself and I can tell you that this happened quickly. I won’t say anything more than that out of respect for the recruit. He told me he’s down to Georgia, Clemson, and Florida State so it’s not like he’s out of options but Texas was the likely pick heading into the weekend.

I’ve said Texas will take 5-6 DB’s in 2018, and with the 3 committed it looks like the plan is to try and land Jalen Green and D’Shawn Jamison (which looks likely as of today), and save a spot for CB Anthony Cook if he wants in. – (Andrew)

– Bobby Brown: While Perkins won’t be in Austin on the 21st, a different big name DL will be.

Another big win for Tom Herman and Texas as it looked like Brown was orginally heading to Alabama for that weekend. This will be Brown’s first visit to Texas this summer and they must make a big impression to stay near the top for him. If I’m Oscar Giles, I’m keeping him and Keondre Coburn close and giving them the red carpet treatment all night long.

Don’t be surprised to see Brown at TAMU the following day. We’ve reported that Alabama is the leader for Brown, with Oklahoma and Texas close behind. But Texas A&M is a threat in this one as well, as it would be Brown’s second visit to College Station this summer. – (Andrew)

– Calvin Avery: ICYMI, Bishop Dunne (TX) DT Calvin Avery tweeted this out recently.

Also that he will be committing on August 4th. Texas didn’t make the cut and I asked Avery why and he said because he hasn’t heard from the Longhorn staff in a few months. There was a time when I was told Nebraska and Texas A&M, the two leaders for him, didn’t have room for him and Texas started showing some interest. But it seems Texas has turned all their focus to Keondre Coburn and Bobby Brown at the inside DL spot in 2018. – (Andrew)

– July 21st Additions: I’ve tweeted a lot of names that will be in Austin on July 21st, but I wanted to add a few more that I confirmed recently.

Conroe Oak Ridge (TX) DE Joseph Ossai

– Commitment Alert | Al’Vonte Woodard: Expecting Texas to receive some good news over the weekend as Hou. Lamar (TX) WR Al’Vonte Woodard is set to announce his commitment on Saturday.

– UPDATE (3:25 PM): Confirmed that RS freshman Tope Imade has made the move to DL. I was told he dropped some weight after weighing around 320 last year at OG. The move to DL after losing Jordan Elliott and Marcel Southall.
