– Commitment Watch: We’re hearing Texas could pick up another commitment sometime in the next week. Stay tuned…

– Team Note | WR Chemistry: There always is a couple of WR’s that seem to have a better chemistry with a QB. Based on some people I’ve talked to, that seems to be the case with QB Shane Buechele as well. While having a good chemistry with the QB doesnt always mean lots of playing time is coming, but it sure doesn’t hurt. I heard those two guys are Collin Johnson and Reggie Hemphill-Mapps.

Johnson isn’t surprising as most remember the stories from Charlie Strong about Buechele and Johnson. Calling him in the middle of the night because they wanted to get the indoor facility unlocked for them. Also the jump-ball TD’s to Johnson in the Texas Tech game last year and in the Spring game takes some practice to perfect.

Hemphill is a guy whose name has come up a lot in the Spring and Summer he had a really nice Spring game. Some person told me he could end up being the “security blanket” for Buechele out of the slot. As I’ve said about Hemphill before, he’s more quick than fast, so he can get open on a lot of people. We’ve also been told he has a knact for finding the open holes in the defense. He has a good sense of space in finding spots in the zone where he can sit down and make himself an available target. He’s also added some good weight to his frame this offseason. Though we’ve been told the slot WR spot is wide open. Each guy seems to have specific strengths unique to them.

Also of note, some WR’s had class conflict with team-led 7on7. Hemphill was not one of those guys. So he was able to get a lot of reps with the QB’s. This could explain the chemistry between him and Buechele.

The Texas staff puts a premium on the slot WR position so that will be a battle to watch this Spring. Johnson has locked down his outside WR spot. – (Andrew)

Corione Harris: ICYMI, Texas offered Kansas DB commit Corione Harris. In talking to people we know from Louisiana, they spoke very highly of his ability. Remember he does have an LSU offer. Harris has been committed to Kansas for sometime with his teammate Devanta Jason, who we are told is one of Harris’ lifelong friends.

Another reason he’s committed to Kansas is Jayhawk CB Mike Lee, who is another lifelong friend. He went to HS with Harris and Jason and would’ve been on the the team that won State but he graduated early to attend KU. Tony Hull, the associate HC/RB coach at Kansas is also from New Orleans.

This offer could indate the Texas staff isn’t putting all their eggs in the Anthony Cook basket. As Ohio State looks like the leader for Cook. People we spoke to say he hasn’t spoke about the prospect of flipping. But he has taken visits and plans to take one to Texas. – (Andrew/Super K)

– Injury Note: Speaking of Hemphill, HC Tom Herman said after practice today that Hemphill left practice early. He said he was dizzy, and they’re looking at him for a possible migraine. I heard it isn’t anything that seems too serious moving forward.

– Preseason Coaches Poll: Preseason Poll season is here and the coaches poll was released this morning. And Texas ranks #23.

Coming off a 5-7 season I was surprised to see Texas in the Top 25. But it seems to happen every year
