– Another Good Day: We are expecting it to be another good day for Texas fans. If everything follows course, you might want to be checking the site around 3 pm. – (TFB)
– Keondre Coburn: The big news dropped yesterday when Westfield (TX) DT Keondre Coburn committed to Texas over Alabama, Texas A&M, and others.
— Keondre Coburn⁹⁹ (@slowburn99) August 7, 2017
To say this was an important commitment for Texas would be quite an understatement. Coburn is quick, strong and plays with good leverage. He fits this Texas defense.
When people think of Westfield DL they may think of Houston superstar Ed Oliver. Keondre Coburn likely isn’t the next Ed Oliver. But he is what Texas needs in this class, especially after the loss of Jordan Elliott and Marcel Southall to transfer. He is an explosive DT that can get in the backfield but can also take on double-teams to free up his LBs.
Some have criticized Texas’ Top 5 recruiting class saying it lacks the talent in the trenches. Part of that is simply due to the fact that the state is much deeper this year at WR/DB than OL/DL. But Coburn should quiet that criticism. I mean, look at this class!

Interestingly, Coburn wasn’t planning on committing this early. But after a heart to heart with his head coach, he made a decision to go ahead and pull the trigger. Former Westfield HC, Corby Meekins is showing off his value to the staff. That Thhey’re Westfield-to-Texas pipeline appears to be strong with Coburn coming into the fold and RB, Daniel Young, having come in this year. – (Andrew)
– Rafiti Ghirmai: Some other big recruiting news dropped recently as Wakeland (TX) OT Rafiti Ghirmai has set his commitment date.
I will be committing on August 21st‼️

Ghirmai is coming off of visits to UCLA and Michigan right before the dead period began. I reported recently that the main schools in it for Ghirmai are Texas, UCLA, Michigan, Florida, and Alabama. But the two schools he told me that will “for sure” get official visits are Texas and UCLA.
There is a lot of talk about UCLA taking the lead after Ghirmai’s last visit to Westwood. And while I will say that in talking to him I can tell that he loves the thought of living in LA for college, I can also tell you the distance from home and the recruiting momentum Texas has on the recruiting trail right now has really caught his eye as well.
If Texas can land Ghirmai it would be a great pick up for coach Warehime and staff and continue to solidify this offensive line class. – (Andrew)
– Team Note | Losing The Stripe: Something Tom Herman and his staff have done with the new Longhorns of the 2017 class is that they’ve put a red stripe on their helmets. Like you see with WR Jordan Pouncey in this picture from Justin Wells of Inside Texas…
— Justin Wells (@justinwells2424) July 31, 2017
Bascially it’s something the young guys wear until the staff feels they’ve earned the right to have it taken off and join the rest of their team. Ohio State is a school that has done it for awhile so Herman probably got it from Urban Meyer but a lot of other schools do it as well.
Well, DC Todd Orlando said on Monday that DE Taquon Graham was the first member of the 2017 class to have his stripe removed. He continues to impress the coaching staff. I’d bet on CB Josh Thompson or LB Gary Johnson being the next two members of the 2017 class to have their stripes removed. – (Andrew)
