We called it early this week, DeGabriel Floyd, but it’s still surprising to see DeGabriel Floyd move up his timeline for his commitment to today as he has committed to the Longhorns.

Strong, quick, fast and athletic. It’s as simple as that. It’s hard to find guys this nimble and quick at this size. The guy has wide receiver movement and catching ability, as a linebacker. He returns punts for his team and plays safety at times. Pass coverage is definitely not a concern of mine for the Big 12. Combine this, along with the fact that he is exceptional at run fits and plays like a mad man, means Texas fell in love with him.
Luckily he fell in love with Texas as well. Floyd wasn’t too thrilled that USC brought in a huge LB class in 2018. This really helped Texas. The fact that Floyd sees an immediate role for himself at the Rover position, which is where the staff wants him, and he sees the success of players like Malik Jefferson and Gary Johnson, has really excited him about the prospect of playing in Austin. Add to it that he has family there and connected with players like Cam Rising and Ayodele Adeoye and Texas lands one of the best linebackers in the country that fills a position of need perfectly. He was designed to play Rover at Texas.
Here is Super K’s Film Breakdown of Floyd:
Floyd reminds of last year’s top ATH, Micah Parsons who signed with Penn State. Floyd is a linebacker but he’s returning kicks, playing wide receiver. I don’t know if we’ll see a big guy move like Parsons in a while but Floyd has some of that exceptional functional movement you don’t expect to see on someone his size. He can play on the edge but you also see him read and run or blitz the interior and while he’s lined up yards off the LOS, he beats everybody to the ball carrier.
Once again, you’re seeing a quick first stop down and a guy who can run and hit with bad intention…this is another classic Todd Orlando offer.
