Kenyatta Watson, the highly sought after Georgia defensive back, has committed to Texas over Notre Dame.
Coming off a historic 2018 DB class, Texas was able to be picky about who they take in the secondary. Kenyatta Watson immediately caught the eye of the Texas staff with his athleticism and frame.
Watson is 6’2″ and 187 pounds with a long frame (which Texas coaches love). The top-10 CB is a top tier athlete who clocked a 4.5 forty and had a 45 inch vertical. He possesses a fire under his belly to be physical with every wide receiver and the ability to flip his hips at a moments notice.
Texas could play him at either boundary corner or safety at the next level, but will most likely play corner at Texas. Duane Akina always made sure his safeties could perform man-coverage before he’d think of using them. Kenyatta already has that down with the way he is able to use his hips and hands on the field.
On top of being a great athlete, Watson will be a great recruiter for the Longhorns out East in SEC territory. He has already gotten Owen Pappoe to visit Texas once and will be working on a number of other top end talent in Georgia and the surrounding area.
This is Texas’ 5th commitment of the class and all of them have been guys on the top of their board, and this one gives Texas a much needed win in the secondary. Although this is his second commitment, this one appears to be pretty solid.
This is the start of a good month.
