Open Post | Wednesday, December 7th (UPDATED 6:08 pm)

– Toneil Carter: Per multiple reports, Georgia RB commit Toneil Carter will no longer officially visit Texas this weekend. I have not been able to confirm through Carter. I was told by a source that UGA HC Kirby Smart is heading to Houston today for his in-home visit with Carter and the plan was to convince him not to visit Texas this weekend.

247 is reporting that Texas actually cancelled the visit. We can confirm this via sources on the Texas side of things. – (Andrew)

More on the RB Situation: Related to the note above, can’t say much but Texas is working hard on a particular in-state RB. Said back would prefer to be the lone RB in the class wherever he ends up. Keep your eyes and ears open. Things could happen fast. – (Super K)

– Bryson Smith: Yesterday, Texas offered Houston QB commit Bryson Smith. Per a coach at Smith’s high school, Smith was offered as a slot WR. I’ll try to get in contact with Smith to see if he will still get a shot to play QB, and if not, if it’s a deal-breaker for him. Remember, he’s teammates with Texas WR commit Damion Miller. Smith doesn’t have elite speed, but he has elite quickness, which is something you love to have at slot. – (Andrew)

Camron Horry: Earlier this week Texas offered 2017 TE and TAMU commit, Camron Horry (Katy, TX). Horry is the son of former NBA player, Robert Horry. Horry tells that TAMU wants him as a TE but at already 6’5 265 lbs I can’t help but wonder if OT is in his future. I do believe that’s ultimately where he ends up.

Horry was a little non-commital on when or if he’d be able to take a visit to Texas but that doesn’t surprise me given he is committed elsewhere. I do think a visit is likely. He said he’s known the current staff for a while since they recruited him while he was at Houston. He even added about the amount of time he spent around the staff while they were at Houston, “I was there all the time”. – (Super K)

Salvatore Cannella: Yesterday, Texas offered JUCO TE, Salvatore Canella (Scottsdale CC). Canella confirmed that he will take an official visit to Texas this upcoming weekend.

Salvatore is a January enrollee so expect a decision to come very quickly. It sounds like he will decide between Texas, Maryland and Auburn. Salvatore tells me he has already visited Maryland and “loved it there”. This weekend he will squeeze a visit to both Auburn and Texas in before the dead period begins. Keep an eye on this one.

Just a note, my biggest complaint about Strong’s tenure and, in my opinion, the cause of his demise at Texas was his staff’s inability to properly assess and manage their roster. The fact that Herman has so quickly identified the need at TE and is willing to go after an Arizona JUCO player last minute, is a good sign. – (Super K)

Reese Leitao: 2017 TE and Nebraska commit, Reese Leitao (Jenks, OK) confirmed that he received a Texas offer yesterday. Still working to see where this one might go but I can say that Warehime has strong connections in Oklahoma so it may help here. – (Super K)

UPDATE (11:38 am): More proof that this staff GETS IT. Very violent, fast and loose hipped defensive back from OK via CA.

UPDATE (12:02 pm): I am told Texas has now offered 2017 DB, Kam Curl (Muskogee, OK). DB coach, Jason Washington visited the talented CB/S today.

– UPDATE (6:08 pm): In case anyone forgot, 5-star OT Walker Little and his family are hosting Texas HC Tom Herman and his staff tonight for an in-home visit.
