Defensive tackle is one of the top needs for Texas in 2018 after missing out on 5-star DT Marvin Wilson in 2017 and losing Jordan Elliott and Marcel Southall to transfer this offseason. Well Texas has gone out and landed the #1 DT in Texas in the 2018 class in Westfield (TX) DT Keondre Coburn.
At 6’1 325, Coburn needs to shed some weight but he knows that as does his HS staff and the Texas staff. At 6’1 he’s not the tallest guy but has great explosion and is a perfect fit as a nose guard in Todd Orlando’s 3-4 defense. He’s good enough to get to the QB and close the pocket. But he also looks like he has the capability to absorb double teams to free up the LB’s.
His former HS coach Corby Meekins is on the Texas staff, and Meekins’ brother his the new HC at Westfield. But the shot to play earlier than at most schools was the big selling point from Texas to Coburn and it paid off as Oscar Giles has landed a really good one in the trenches.
Coburn is an absolute HUGE land for Texas and is commit #16 in 2018.
