Open Post | Weekend, October 20th – 22nd

Joseph Ossai: Since the beginning of Joseph Ossai’s recruitment, TAMU has been the leader. A couple weeks ago, Ossai took his official visit to Texas and as we noted, UT made such an impression that a source close to Ossai said UT had taken a slight lead over TAMU.

I confirmed with a source close to Ossai that Joseph will take a return visit to Texas this weekend. Hard not to believe that’s a really good sign.

Ossai still has his official visit to TAMU upcoming, however, so this one isn’t wrapped up just yet. – (Super K)

Team Notes | Motivating Collin Johnson?: Earlier in the week Dorian Leonard was listed on the Texas depth chart as the starter over Collin Johnson. That was a surprise. But, we are used to the Texas staff saying one thing to the media and doing something a little different behind the scenes.

This isn’t one of those times.

I’m told that Dorian Leonard has indeed been taking the first team reps…not Collin Johnson. I asked a source whether Leonard has in fact developed into a guy who is seen as a better wide receiver than Johnson, “No. Collin just didn’t show up on Saturday and he’s getting a taste of what that means”.

Herman is showing the team that no one is immune from the competition. – (Super K)

Badara Traore: As you know by now, this weekend, Texas will host JUCO OT, Badara Traore (ASA College). Sources on the Texas side tell us that Traore is an absolute take.

That shouldn’t surprise anyone. Traore is raw but he’s an exceptional athlete and Texas needs to upgrade their offensive line as soon as humanly possible. Guys like Ehlinger and Carter will be sophomores and coming into their own next year. The last thing you want is to have an offensive line that prevents them from shining.

I checked with a source at ASA and this will be Traore’s first in-season official visit. He visited Auburn over the summer. Source also said that the only other official Traore is certain to take is one to LSU.

I’m told he’s still deciding which schools will get his final two official visits, assuming he actually takes them.

Based on the above it seems pretty clear that this is currently a battle between Texas, Auburn, and LSU. Little doubt Texas will show Traore just how much they need him and try to get an early commitment out of him.

He is expected to enroll in January. – (Super K)

Mustapha Muhammad: As many of you know by now, Texas 2018 TE target, Mustapha Muhammad (Missouri City, TX) is set to announce his decision tomorrow at 6:30 PM.

Muhammad was originally scheduled to announce a decision much later. This sudden change has led some folks to believe that he may be receiving some pressure from the school of choice.

At this point, all signs are pointing towards Michigan. Our Texas sources tell us the staff has received no indication that he will select Texas.

However, Muhammad has not yet taken his official visit to Michigan. He will visit there in December…when it’s cold. We are told Texas will continue to recruit him and it’ll be interesting to see if this turns into a Jordan Elliot situation.

Whether it does or doesn’t, the highest priority for Texas is to hold on to JUCO TE, Dominique Wood-Anderson. He’s an instant impact guy and with the current young crop of TEs already on campus who will be coming into their own by next year, missing out on Mustapha isn’t as big of a blow as some might think. – (Andrew & Super K)
