– Brennan Eagles: I’ve talked about the star power in the 2018 class that Texas is getting on campus in January. Those guys include 5-star S BJ Foster, S Caden Sterns, QB Cam Rising, and QB Casey Thompson.

Another big name has been added to the list in WR commit Brennan Eagles. I talked to him recently and he informed me of his plans. Eagles hasn’t played a ton during his senior after suffering an ankle injury. He was a guy I was wondering who could take some other official visits after Texas began to struggle this season. Though he’s been 100% locked in with Texas and that’s his only planned official visit right now.

Eagles is a big physical WR at 6’3.5 215 pounds. Though he’s a guy that needs to work on becoming a better WR overall. He has the size and speed that you can’t teach and I’m sure the Longhorn staff is very happy to get him on campus a semester early. – (Andrew)

– Terrace Marshall Jr: As you all know by now, this past weekend, Texas hosted one of the most elite 2018 wide receivers in the country in Terrace Marshall (Bossier City, LA).

Marshall is a potential instant impact guy. Should Texas land him, they’d likely have their equivalent of what OU got in CeeDee Lamb (I still can’t believe Strong waited so long to offer Lamb).

I spoke at length with Terrace Marshall’s father, Terrace Sr. and after that conversation I cam away very much thinking, Texas can absolutely land Marshall.

As you all know Marshall had a top five of Texas, TAMU, Alabama, LSU and Florida State. As I previously mentioned, they’ve already taken official visits to TAMU and Florida State. I don’t see Florida State really being a threat at this point.

I did ask Marshall Sr. if the instability at TAMU put them out of the race and he wasn’t ready to go that far saying, “well we’ve still got time till we make the decision so we’ll watch and see who they bring in.” With TAMU likely landing Pete Carroll as their head coach and Dabo Swinney and Jimbo Fisher coming along as position coaches, they’ll be tough to beat. I kid. I kid.

Alabama appears to be completely out of the running, “They’ve been trying to get us to come out for a visit but I don’t think we’re going to do that”.

Marshall Sr. did say they will take their visit to LSU and LSU, not surprisingly, appears to be the biggest threat to Texas.

But Texas made things very interesting this weekend putting together quite a visit for the Marshall family, “It was just off the charts. I didn’t know what to expect coming into it but it was a A+ visit. They topped Texas A&M and Florida State visits. I mean, Texas A&M, now, they did a good job too but yeah, I’d say Texas was the best visit”.

In terms of the draw to Texas that could put them over teams like LSU, Marshall Sr. said, “Knowing how Herman likes to air it out. They’re bringing in two of the best quarterbacks and Terrace already knows Casey. They (the staff) know right now the program isn’t where they want to it be but look at the class they’re bringing. They want to get their guys in there.”

Interestingly, Marshall tells me that the family plans on moving to wherever Terrace Jr. commits. So, I asked the question that had to be asked, how does Austin compare to Austin? “Baton Rouge can’t compare to Austin. I loved Austin. I’ve got a cousin who stays in Austin. I don’t go out much but if we move to Austin I may have to start going out”.

Marshall is set to announce his decision on December 22nd.

Bottom Line: I’d put Texas above TAMU, Alabama and Florida State and I don’t think it’s really close. This one, as of right now, feels very much like a Texas vs. LSU battle. We should know more after the LSU trip but there is certainly some concern on the part of Marshall Sr. that LSU simply isn’t committed to the pass game the way Texas is.

I think the draw of Austin, TX is also significant here. I don’t know if I’m ready to say Texas has the lead but I think they are very much in this one. With Herman’s offense and the need for some true impact guys on the field, UT makes a lot of sense for Marshall. – (Super K)

Team Note | Injury News: Longhorn freshman DB Josh Thompson missed part of the team’s workout on Tuesday to be evaluated for a head injury he sustained during practice. He is being treated and will be re-evaluated today. Further information will be available at that time.

That leaves Texas’ third guy being Donovan Duvernay or maybe John Bonney. We will look into the situation and find out what Texas plans to do. – (Will Baizer)
