As you all know by now, and for those of you who were not aware of it, the other day Texas QB Sam Ehlinger appeared to take a shot at the Sooners with this tweet…

Over the last 24 hours or so, multiple Sooners took to Twitter to respond to the supposed shot, including this baited question and subsequent response from Baker Mayfield…

So what we have here is a good ol’ fashioned Red River Twitter war…right?
Perhaps, but then again, perhaps not.
I know you are all saying “of course it’s typical rivalry banter” but what if I told you Ehlinger was not taking a shot at OU, but rather he was potentially taking a shot at Texas A&M?
Think about it for a minute. Ehlinger was pointing out the rather weak showing on the bench press at the combine by former Sooner OT Orlando Brown. He mentioned Texas’ strength and conditioning coach Yancy McKnight in the tweet. Who was Orlando Browns strength and conditioning coach? That would be Jerry Schmidt, formerly at OU, but currently at TAMU.
Texas and TAMU are involved in multiple battles, where they are in the top two for guys who play in the trenches and Tom Herman is having to defend his flank from the new regime down in College Station.
Could it be that what we have here is actually a Red River Twitter spat…that really was never intended to take place?
