Quick Hitters | Linebacker Recruiting
– Andrew King

There have been some questions in regards to linebacker recruiting in 2019. It’s a down year in the state of Texas at the position. Though Texas did land a Top five outside linebacker early in the process in De’Gabriel Floyd from California as well as Jones (FL) OLB Marcus Tillman Jr this past weekend. Here are some quick notes…

– The main linebacker in the state of Texas in 2019 is Cinco Ranch’s David Gbenda. He was expected to visit Texas this weekend, but it sounds like plans have changed. He will now likely be at TCU. The Horned Frogs have made this a 3-horse race between Texas-Texas A&M-TCU. We’ll see how things look after this weekend.

Gbenda isn’t expected to make a decision until December, but Texas would’ve liked to get him in this weekend. He will be back in Austin for an official visit during the season regardless.

– Remember, we noted that Texas is in a better spot than most believed with Punahou (HI) Inside Linebacker Maninoa Tufono. Texas is in the Top 5 along with LSU, Washington, USC, and UCLA. I’ve heard that Washington and USC are the main competition for Texas here.

Texas Offers 2019 DL Rodas Johnson
– Charlie S

– Texas extended an offer to elite DT Rodas Johnson who as we reported, made his way to campus this weekend.

Johnson is originally from Texas and he spends a lot of time in the state throughout his summers. He moved up to Ohio in elementary school but with a father who is from Texas they grew up Longhorn fans.

We expect Texas to be in this in a major going forward.

Quick Hitters | Star at Night
– Will Baizer

– Texas’ Stars At Night Showcase should be considered a success after the commitment of Marcus Tillman.

– At 4pm the recruits were given tours of the campus and meetings with coaches took place. Then during the camp, they ran 1v1 drills. Then the fun started with a dunk contest, dodgeball, and a water balloon fight. Sounds fun.

– Texas sent out an offer to 2020 RB Ty Jordan out of West Mesquite. I saw this guys film before he had any offers at all and was immediately impressed. He is very explosive and versatile. He doesn’t lose speed on change of direction which is great. Great offer. Texas is the team to beat here by far.

– 2019 ATH McKel Broussard apparently is closer to an offer after the camp. He reportedly had coaches and alumni buzzing.

– Texas is back in the drivers seat with 2020 QB Malik Hornsby. However, he is visiting Texas A&M again today. This recruitment will be that rivalry recruitment for 2020.

-2020 CB Jalen Kimber was the last guy out of Moncrief. He took a tour and had long meetings with Jason Washington. They will be waiting to see the game film, but they like what they see in him.

-Texas really took a big step with 2020 CB Jaylon Jones and his parents. Jason Washington and his wife put in work last night and spent three hours with the Jones family getting to know them and work the relationship. Both A&M and Florida were upset that he made it to Texas instead. Get him talking with Caden Sterns more. Also, the most impressive DB who participated

Texas Offers 2019 DB Tyler Owens
– Super K

Texas has offered jumbo size safety 2019 DB, Tyler Owens (Plano, TX). Owens is a big safety. Having seen him in person he really does have the size of a linebacker. That size caused some people to question whether he’s truly a DB.

Owns camped at Texas this past weekend and put any doubts about his ability to move, to bed.

He won the fastest man and he broad jumped over eleven feet!

Owens has offers from schools like Nebraska and UCLA but a source said that with the Hook’Em offer, “Texas just jumped in the lead”. Owens actually picked up the offer on Friday but only posted it Sunday. He spent the weekend in Austin.

2020 QB Malik Hornsby | Trending…
– Super K

I’m told he is now trending TAMU and away from Texas. Source cited a couple of primary reason.

***The fact that Texas has a QB already committed in the 2020 class.

***They have a lot of respect for Texas’ 2019 QB commit, Roschon Johnson. It sounds a lot like what we saw with OU and Bryce Young. I know people are quick to say one shouldn’t shy away from competition. But when you’ve got an elite quarterback in the class right above you, it can sometimes seem like the competition isn’t exactly fair given the fact that the older quarterback has an additional year to develop in the system. The fear then becomes, if they land the job and they’re only one year ahead of you, when do you see the field.

While it appeared to be nearly a foregone conclusion that Hornsby would end up at Texas, I’m told that, at the moment, this one is moving in a different direction.

Longhorns Make The Cut | 2019 RB Noah Cain
– Charlie S

– The Longhorns remain in the hunt for elite 2019 running back Noah Cain out of IMG Academy in Florida.

Cain tweeted out his Final Six earlier this evening which included OU, LSU, Texas, Penn State, Ohio State, and Auburn.

Cain has stated a desire to make his announcement on or near the December signing day, so this one has a long time to still play out.

We will have more on this in the near future.
