5-Star Offensive Lineman Visiting This Weekend
– Super K
Texas will host some key targets this weekend for the USC game, including the likes of 5-star ATH Bru McCoy and Marcus Washington.
It sounds like they will host another 5-star player and the number one offensive guard in the 2020 class, Justin Rogers (Oak Park, MI). Rogers visit will obviously be an unofficial visit. The fact that Rogers is coming down to Texas on his own dime is a good sign. Even better when you consider the on-field struggles.
Health Scares for Two Longhorn Commits
– Andrew King
Friday night was a scary one for two of Texas’ top commits in QB Roschon Johnson and S Kenyatta Watson.
Port Neches-Groves and Johnson took on Huntsville and Texas DE commit T’Vondre Sweat on Friday. Johnson went down in the second half with an ankle injury and was carted off the field. Johnson doesn’t seem to think it’s anything too serious. Sounds like the best case scenario is that is was just a severe ankle sprain, which would be good news.
Watson had a different kind of issue. In the final minute of the game, Watson collapsed on the Grayson sideline. He was taken off the field by an ambulance. Watson tweeted this late Friday night.
I’m good y’all thanks for the prayers
— Kenyatta Watson II (@K2SZN) September 8, 2018
And I talked to Watson’s father, who’s a Grayson assistant coach. He told me that his son is fine and nothing serious came from the scary moment on Friday.
North Shore Trio Planning Texas Trip
– Andrew King
***This weekend will be a huge one for Texas, on and off the field. Texas hosts #22 USC and there will be plenty of top recruiting targets in attendance as Tom Herman looks to get his first signature win in Austin. Three of those guys are from North Shore HS, and will be top targets down the line in ’20 RB Zachary Evans, ’20 OT Damieon George, and ’21 ATH Shadrach Banks.
***We’ll start with Evans, as he is a 5-star recruit and is in the running for the #1 player in the nation in the 2020 class. Getting him on campus would be a huge deal in itself. Add the momentum some feel Texas A&M has in his recruitment right now. And I’ll touch on the TAMU news with him right now. I don’t think Texas A&M leads with Evans, but I don’t think anyone does. He doesn’t strike me as a recruit who will make a decision off one game or a great visit like 5-star ’20 WR Demond Demas did. Evans really like Texas A&M, but Texas, LSU, Georiga, Alabama, Florida State, and other powerhouses have his attention too.
***Banks, who Super K saw told you to keep an eye on earlier this fall, recently picked up a Texas offer. While it is still very early in the 2021 receivers recruitment, the Longhorns could help position themselves better by making a memorable impression on the young wideout both on and off the field this weekend.
***George doesn’t have a Texas offer, but that could change this weekend if he makes it in. Banks picked up a Texas offer last week and is a freak athlete. He’s a guy who could play WR/S/CB in college, but it sounds like he’d prefer playing WR. He’ll be in the 5-star range as more 2021 rankings start coming out.
***One person at North Shore told me that they’re watching the weather in Austin right now and that could be something that keeps them from making the trip. Evans also had some family stuff happen last week, so that’s another factor with him and everyone respects that.
Elijah Higgins | Unofficial Visit
– Super K
Hometown hero, 2019 wide receiver, Elijah Higgins tells me he will take an unofficial visit to Texas this weekend for the USC game. Obviously, a good thing to get Higgins back on campus.
Higgins has yet to take an official visit to Texas which I do expect to happen. So, it’s noteworthy that this is an unofficial visit as it means at least one more visit to Texas is likely.
