Former Texas Quarterback, Shane Buechele, has announced his intentions to transfer to SMU. As a graduate transfer, he will be immediately eligible to play and has two years left of eligibility.
Buechele is a third-year quarterback who played in 23 games and started 19 games during his career as a Longhorn. He was named to the 2017 Academic All-Big 12 Second Team. Buechele threw for 4,363 yards, just the ninth player in school history to surpass 4,000 passing yards in a career. Shane has passed for at least 200 yards in 14 career games, including two games with more than 300 yards.
He was named the starter as a true freshman and became the first true freshman QB in school history to start the first two games of his career. Buechele was just the second true freshman QB, joining Bobby Layne, to start the season opener.
Coming into Austin, he was a two-time all-state quarterback who was rated as one of the top QBs in the nation coming out of high school.
We wish him nothing but success at SMU.
