The Longhorns have picked up a much-needed commitment for the 2020 class at a position of need as defensive tackle Vernon Broughton has given Tom Herman and company his verbal pledge!
The 6’5″ 290 lb defensive tackle out of Houston, TX, holds over twenty offers from all the power programs across the country and in the end, Texas won a head to head battle with Texas A&M for his commitment.
At times throughout his recruitment, the pendulum swung in different directions with LSU, Arkansas, Ohio State, Alabama, and A&M all feeling confident but the one constant throughout his recruiting process has been Texas.
Tom Herman and Oscar Giles made him and his family a priority and in the end, it was enough to secure his commitment.
Broughton is the ninth commit in the 2020 class and he is the first defensive lineman to jump in the boat.
While the class is not huge at this point, it is loaded with quality recruits and that trend should continue as the Longhorns methodically put together another elite class.
We will have a full analysis of what Broughton brings to the 40 acres.
