This past week on the TFB Texas Donor Board, Super K reported:
***Am told the hire of the new defensive line coach has been made and will be announced after signing day.
***The coach will be paired with coach Giles.
***I’ll hold the name for now but I can tell you that it’s hire from the Big 10.
There are reports circling that the name Super K withheld is Indiana Co-Defensive Coordinator and Defensive Line Coach Mark Hagen.
We can confirm that Mark Hagen will be joining the Texas staff and will officially be announced as part of the staff after signing day as we originally reported.
Hagen is seen as a plus recruiter, having previously been the recruiting coordinator at Indiana before being hired away by Texas A&M as the linebackers coach. While the LB coach for Texas A&M he did not exceed expectations on the recruiting trail, but still brought in names like Otaro Alaka and Justin Madubuike before the end of the Sumlin era.
The Longhorns are hoping that Mark Hagen’s ability to recruit will hopefully be made easier when paired with a talent-developer like Oscar Giles.
