Recruiting Activities | Coaches Have to Keep Recruiting
– Super K
NCAA has announced a suspension of on and off-campus recruiting through April 15th. So, still a possibility that things will calm down and the Spring Game will move forward. At this point, nothing would surprise me.
Spring evaluation period doesn’t start till after that, anyway. So the bigger thing is going to be not having recruits on campus for spring practices.
There are other times throughout the year where players can’t visit the school, however, that doesn’t mean recruiting suddenly ends.
Recruiting was going to slow down starting today for about a week while the coaches went on spring break. And while they may not be in the office after spring break, that doesn’t mean recruiting will end.
If coaches take the weeks after spring break like an extended vacation, they may find themselves way behind in some recruiting battles. Most recruiting, in terms of frequency, happens via phone, FaceTime, etc., anyway.
So, the thing I’ll be watching for, after spring break is which staffs go about their business of staying in touch with players and doing their regular calls and which staffs treat this as an extended vacation.
Texas out for Mario Williams
– Super K
It appeared Texas was primed to make a move with 2021 WR, Mario Williams (Plant City, FL).
They had him on campus for an unofficial and that was supposed to spring board them into an official visit. But it looks like that hope has likely ended with Williams releasing his top five. Texas the noticeable and notable omission.
Honestly, don’t know what to make of it. Still plenty of speed targets left including Jojo Earle and Christian Leary. Gotta land one of them.
4-Star ATH Denzel Burke | Rescheduling Update
– Super K
Texas efforts with Kelee Ringo (Saguaro) not coming to fruition haven’t deterred the Horns from dipping back into Saguaro. After all, they have had recent success in the state of Arizona.
As you know, Texas has been in pursuit of 2021 4-star ATH, Denzel Burke who hails from Sagauro.
I checked in with him briefly and he tells me that he was planning an unofficial visit to Texas but the dead period, now in place till at least April 15th, has disrupted that.
However, he says he will reschedule a trip to Texas but says he’s “just waiting for the NCAA to clear everything”.
More on Burke later but for now, just know that Texas will be a player in this one.
Texas To Be Big Underdogs According to Vegas in 2020
– CJ Vogel
The entire sports world is currently halted which means there is nothing to place a wager on at the current moment. But that hasn’t stopped the wizards over in Vegas from releasing opening lines for some of the biggest games in the country next fall.
According to the lines Vegas released, Texas will be underdogs in three of its biggest games in 2020.
- Texas vs. LSU (-6.5)
- OU (-4.5) vs. Texas – at the Cotton Bowl
- Oklahoma State (-2.5) vs. Texas
As the self-proclaimed resident wager analyst, there appears to be plenty of opportunity for money to be made by betting on the Longhorns in the fall.
