TFB Talking Point | Once Again, Sam Stands Alone
– Charlie S

Texas began the season by announcing they were going with seven captains.

That seemed like a lot.

For the bowl game, it will be considerably less.

Sam Ehlinger will be the lone remaining captain who will participate in the Longhorns final game of the 2020 season.

Samuel Cosmi, Joseph Ossai, Ta’Quon Graham, Caden Sterns and Chris Brown have all announced their intentions to opt out of the bowl game to prepare for the NFL Draft.

Derek Kerstetter is out due to injury.

So…once again…Sam stands alone.

I guess it is kind of the way 2020 had to end for the program. Wasn’t it?

Name to Know | Transfer OL Jarrett Horst
– CJ Vogel

As we know, there will be a lot of eyes on the portal this offseason for better or for worse, but there is one name Texas fans should know right off the jump: Jarrett Horst

Horst announced his plans to transfer from Arkansas State on Monday and within hours of his announcement told me he had been in contact with the Texas staff.

Before the 2020 season, Horst was named to the Outland Trophy Watchlist. Horst, who is originally from Middleton, Wisconsin, attended Ellsworth Community College during his freshman year then transferred to Arkansas State for his sophomore and junior seasons.

He told me “I am very interested in Texas.”

Herb Hand will be tasked with replacing Sam Cosmi and possibly Derek Kerstetter and Denzel Okafor. With the way offensive line recruiting has gone in the 2021 class, the likelihood of a portal addition to the OL room is quite high.

Horst told me and Coach Hand will be setting up a virtual visit later this week. Following their meeting, I’ll have an update on where things stand then.

Josh Thompson to Return in 2021
– CJ Vogel

More positive news has arrived!

Texas starting cornerback Josh Thompson has announced via Twitter that he will return for the 2021 season.

Thompson will have an opportunity to really improve his stock in the eyes of NFL draft scouts with another superb season in 2021.

Report | JoJo Earle to Not Sign on NSD1
– CJ Vogel

According to a report by Greg Riddle of the Dallas Morning News, Aledo WR and current LSU commit JoJo Earle will not be signing tomorrow on the first National Signing Day for the 2021 class.

Earle has been committed to the LSU Tigers and coach Ed Orgeron since April 23, yet the controversy surrounding the program and rumors about Coach O’s future may be the reason for Earle to begin looking around.

According to our Super K Texas had been keeping in contact with the elite WR and was recruiting him this fall.

We are working to confirm the report from Riddle and will post an update accordingly. For now, Earle’s decision to sign or not sign tomorrow looms large.
