Possibility of Big 2023 Visitor This Weekend
– CJ Vogel

Both DT and K have both been able to connect with sources who have mentioned that there is a good chance 2023 5-star QB Arch Manning will be in town to watch the Spring Game this weekend.

On March 8, I reported the following:

*** The source told me that the Mannings are very fond of the work Steve Sarkisian has done over the years and are ultimately big fans of how he works with and develops quarterbacks.

*** It’s still early for Manning’s recruitment, but the source said if he had to guess who is making headway early on it would be the trio of Alabama, Clemson and Texas. Said he would expect one of those three schools to end of earning the signature from Manning when it is all said and done.

The interest, it appears, between Arch Manning and Texas is legitimate. Getting him on campus this weekend for the spring game would be a huge win for the Longhorns and Steve Sarkisian.

K and DT will both have more on Arch and his plans to visit this summer in the very near future.

Mike Woods in the Portal
– Super K

Arkansas wide receiver, Mike Woods is in the portal as a graduate transfer. He’s a native of Magnolia, TX. From what I’ve heard, he’s quite talented.

I surmise Texas will pursue. I will say that, I’m getting the strong sense the Sooners are in the best position for him.

More on this if it becomes more relevant. For now, just something to watch.

Armani Winfield Quiet Visit & Jordan Renaud Headed to Austin
– CJ Vogel

I was over at Lewisville this afternoon to catch up with Texas commit Armani Winfield and top 2023 target Jordan Renaud.

*** Unfortunately, I was told when I arrived that Winfield would not be practicing this afternoon. Winfield recently underwent a medical procedure which had been holding him out of practice for the week.

I was able to dig up that Winfield did make a trip down to Austin a couple of weeks ago which is more than a good sign for his commitment status. I think it goes without saying, but Winfield is unlikely to make it back to Austin this weekend.

*** On a brighter note, 2023 DL Jordan Renaud will be in Austin this weekend for the Texas spring game. Renaud told me he and DL coach Bo Davis have been in contact a lot recently.

I’ll have more on him later in the week but he’s absolutely going to be one of the most coveted defensive linemen in the state so this is a good sign early on.

The Latest | 2022 Denton Ryan DB Austin Jordan
– CJ Vogel

I caught up with 2022 Denton Ryan DB Austin Jordan yesterday following his track practice.

Not much has changed in this recruitment, but there is some updates to his visit official schedule for the summer.

  • June 11-13 : Ohio State
  • June 18-20 : Oklahoma
  • June 25-27 : Texas

Jordan and the Denton Ryan 4×200 team will be in Lubbock this weekend for the regional track meet so no spring game visits for him.

The Texas staff is still very involved in this recruitment, however, I suspect the Sooners are going to be the team to beat in this race moving forward.

With three official visits locked in, there is still the opportunity for two more trips. Jordan said he is in fact looking to take the two extra official visits and has been toying with the idea of heading west to see USC. Nothing is set in stone, but don’t be shocked if the Trojans get an OV.

More on Arch Manning
– Super K

As you know, Texas is in pursuit of 5-star 2023 QB, Arch Manning. Manning would not only be a massive pull for Texas but it would also act as a potential counter to the fairly likely outcome of the Sooners landing Malachi Nelson.

First, is Texas a real player in the Arch Manning race?

According to Manning’s coach, who I spoke with, absolutely.

CJ reported earlier this week that there is a possibility that Manning will make it in for this weekend’s spring game. That’s something we have heard from multiple people. I still don’t have a final confirmation on that but the fact that it seems to be a serious consideration is, in my estimation, noteworthy.

I was driving when I spoke with Manning’s high school coach so I was unable to record/write notes. But he emphasized:

1. That they communicate with coach Sark quite a bit.

2. The coach and the family do seem to be big believers in Sark and what he can build at Texas in the future. The coach gushed about Sark so much he almost struck me as a Texas fan. Said he’s really hoping Sark is able to bring Texas back.

3. Also, emphasized how that they perceive Sark as a true offensive and quarterback genius. This is significant because given Arch’s pedigree, they’re going to look for more than just shiny things and a good pitch. They’ve got shiny things and they can see through a good pitch. They’re going to look for a true developer of the position and there aren’t many of those.

4. I get the sense that they are also very impressed with Sark as a person. Talked about how down-to-earth and relatable he is and how that is such a big bonus when added to the fact that he’s an elite play-caller.

Based on the conversation with Arch’s coach and speaking to some other sources about Arch and then another little note that Darius passed on (still working to get additional confirmation on it), Texas is very much in this one.

Devon Campbell Planning on Being at Spring Game
– Charlie S

Just spoke to CJ who was out to see 2022 offensive line target Devon Campbell out at Bowie this afternoon.

Campbell told CJ that he is planning on getting up to Austin for the spring game on Saturday if things work out with his track events.

Devon is scheduled to throw on Friday evening, but if it gets pushed to Saturday, he will likely not be able to make it to the game.

As we mentioned previously, Campbell made it to campus a few weeks back for a self-guided visit. CJ said that Devon mentioned that he was able to spend a lot of time with players on the team and really enjoyed his time.

Building bonds with the players is never a bad thing!

CJ will have more on Campbell and Texas down the road!

Sourced Notes | Final Practice of Spring
– CJ Vogel

I was able to connect with a source to get some final notes on practice ahead of the spring game on Saturday. I’ll get right into it.

*** Off the bat, the source noted the offensive lines on the first and second teams. Here are how they were relayed to me:

First Team

  • LT – Christian Jones
  • LG – Denzel Okafor
  • C – Jake Majors
  • RG – Junior Angilau
  • RT – Andrej Karic

The second team was a combination of Isaiah Hookfin, Tyler Johnson, Logan Parr, Hayden Conner and Tope Imade. I believe the second unit was presented in the order of which they lined up from left to right on the line.

I personally have not heard a whole lot about Jaylen Garth. I do know he is getting his reps at the tackle position alongside Christian Jones.

The source added that Karic and Tope Imade had been trading reps with the ones on Thursday.

*** I was told safety Brenden Schooler had been working with the twos for most of spring, but do not be surprised if he gets some runs with the first team. He has had a very impressive spring.

*** Some quarterback notes: Hudson Card was with the first team this morning. Again, the two quarterbacks have traded off days with the first and second unit, but today was Card’s day.

Source told me that Card had a filthy run today in the team portion that left multiple defenders on the ground. Card probably won’t be asked to use his legs often, but he is more than capable to make something happen on the ground if the play falls apart.

Also worth noting that Card has been used as the holder in the kicking game.

*** I’m told Juan Davis has been getting some good looks in the pass game.

*** Speaking of pass catchers, Jordan Whittington continues to be the most impressive WR in the bunch.

Al’Vonte Woodard made an impressive touchdown snag this morning in 7v7 period.

Troy Omeire, who tweeted he will get limited snaps in Saturday’s Spring game, was running with the ones in a green no-contact jersey this morning.

*** On an injury front, I thought it was interesting when I heard that Derrick Harris Jr. was suited out today. He is recovering from a torn ACL but is getting back into the groove of moving around again. He is still a bit away from being fully back, but good to hear nonetheless.

*** Luke Brockermeyer has been getting some run with the ones. He has had a great spring as DT noted in Thirsty Thursday. He was alongside David Gbenda with the first team defense.

*** A current look at the secondary:

First Team:

  • LB – David Gbenda, Luke Brockermeyer
  • S – Jerrin Thompson, BJ Foster
  • CB – D’Shawn Jamison, Darion Dunn
  • nCB – Chris Adimora

Second Team:

  • LB – Terrence Cooks II, Jaylan Ford
  • S – Brenden Schooler, Tyler Owens
  • CB – Jahdae Barron, Jamier Johnson
  • nCB – Anthony Cook

*** I’m told not much has changed on the defensive line. Still Ray Thornton and JaCoby Jones on the edges. Keondre Coburn and Moro Ojomo in the middle with Alfred Collins swapping in.
